BREAST LIFT (MASTOPEXY)

Contrary to popular belief, the average age of women requesting breast lifts is 39! This is just slightly older than those having augmentation and reduction procedures.

The Procedure

After examining the size, shape, sagging of your breasts and size of your areolas, Dr. Lovric will determine which of 3 techniques will be best suited for you. The most common approach is:

  • The “anchor” incision, which is actually three incisions.

The first incision is made around the areola, the next runs down from the bottom of the areola down to the breast crease, and the third incision follows the horizontal breast crease. Working through these incisions excess skin is removed from the lower portion of the breast.

Areolas that have been stretched over time can be resized and the tissue is repositioned to reshape the breast. The breast tissue and nipple are lifted into the higher position and the nipple is repositioned.

Other methods, using shorter smaller incisions, are called:

  • The “lollipop” incision, which avoids the horizontal incision beneath the breast

  • The “donut” or “peri-areola” incision around the areola, which avoids both the vertical incision from the breast crease to the areola and the horizontal incision beneath the breast. This procedure may be done under local or general anaesthetic and can take 2 hours depending on each patient and the complexity of the operation

Recovery after any Breast procedure

Certain patients will be discharged the same day, while others may need to stay overnight for observation. You will experience discomfort for several days or weeks. Your breasts will be swollen and very tender. It is vital to rest and follow a healthy lifestyle during your recovery, in order for your body to heal quickly. It is imperative to stop smoking, 5 weeks prior to and after surgery, as this will reduce blood and oxygen supply to the surgical area. When the blood supply is reduced, the tissues heal more slowly. You should be able to resume light activities after a week. It is important to wear a post operative/ sports bra for extra support.

To minimize scarring, Dr. Lovric will advise a Scar Therapy Programme
